High Speed Rail Project
This is a UK government-backed scheme to construct a second-high speed railway project. The project involves the construction of 160 km of rail tracks, using twin-bored tunnels and green tunnels, viaducts and engineering earthworks to achieve a technically-viable and environmentally-sensitive solution.

High Speed Two (HS2) Phase 1 is the expansion of the high-speed rail network between London (Euston Station) and Birmingham, West Midlands. The project has been approved by Parliament and is currently awaiting Royal Assent in December 2016.
The track alignment between London and Birmingham comprises seven contracts. ALIGN JV prequalified for four of these contracts allowing them to submit a bid for Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) Stage 1 for each. ECI Stage 1 is due to be awarded and to commence in Spring 2017 and involves the development of the existing Employer’s Design to Concept Design Stage prior to Detailed Design and Construction (Stage 2).
Rendel and Ingérop provided exemplar tender designs for four contract to the Design-and-Build bidding contractor, ALIGN, a Bouygues TP-led JV that also consists of VolkerFitzpatrick and Sir Robert McAlpine. The services provided included: designs for viaducts and other bridges and structural elements; Geotechnical modeling and ground risk assessments for tunnels and earthworks; soil-structure interaction analysis for shafts, underground and other earth-retaining structures; Highway designs for road diversions, realignments, new junctions, new access roads, pavements, emergency hard standings, road drainage and vehicle swept path analysis; and Track alignments. Rendel produced composite 3-dimensional models of the designs to meet the ultimate client’s BIM and data management requirements.
