Eurotunnel - Dollands Moor, Proposal Rolling Motorway Terminal
Rendel has been appointed on another Eurotunnel project at Dollands Moor Freight Yard near Folkestone in Kent. Rendel will be preparing a cost estimate for the design and construction of a future rolling motorway terminal.
In anticipation of further growth in shuttle traffic, Eurotunnel wishes to explore possibilities for additional capacity for the loading/unloading of shuttles on the UK Terminal. These works will form part of an overall project known as ‘Terminal d’Avenir’.
The scheme will include track diversions, highways and platform reconstruction and Rendel’s scope will be:
- Feasibility studies
- Railway and platform at grade
- Structures/bridges (where required)
- LV power supply/lighting
- Programming, tendering and tender assessment
- All construction-related costs (enabling works, etc.)
- Construction supervision
The scope of works covered here requires increasing the capacity at the Dollands Moor Cargo Terminal, located west of the main Eurotunnel Terminal. This will involve reducing the number of running tracks from ten down to three and the creation of a new wider platform, which will accommodate a modular train loading system called, “Modalorh”. This will accommodate the loading/unloading of several wagons simultaneously and thereby increasing the turnover at the terminal.
