Rendel Career Development

Rendel is committed to training our team to develop their individual capability and careers which, in turn, enhances the skills within the broader Engineering industry. We already have a track record of recruiting and training Graduate Engineers and Technicians to become members of relevant professional institutions. We also provide work placements, experience and shadowing opportunities to undergraduates and have STEM Ambassadors spreading the word about civil engineering careers in schools. However, Rendel also recognises that to meet the skill gaps within the industry, more needs to be done at different entry levels and so we are delighted to have now launched a Civil Engineering Apprenticeship programme. One of Rendel’s current Board Members started at the Company as an apprentice 25 years ago, so we value the opportunities that this route into Engineering can provide.

Working in close association with The National College for High Speed Rail (NCHSR), Rendel has recruited two apprentices who will be attending the College part time, whilst gaining valuable on the job experience within Rendel. Abdus Ahmed and Damani McFarlane were both seeking a new career path in civil engineering, having originally commenced training in surveying and architecture respectively, and the Civil Engineering Apprenticeship with the NCHSR will enable them to retrain whilst working to reach their goals.

Once their formal apprenticeship training is complete, Abdus and Damani will achieve a Level 4 High Speed Rail & Infrastructure Technician qualification which will also satisfy the requirements to become an Engineering Technician through professional institutions such as the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Rendel will be recruiting further apprentices in 2019 and we look forward to working with our new team members as they develop their careers.
