Arabel Vilas on British Tunnelling Society's BTSYM Professional Development Committee

Arabel Vilas

Congratulations to Arabel Vilas who has been selected to the British Tunnelling Society’s BTSYM Professional Development Committee. Arabel is a geotechnical engineer who is currently working on the Melbourne Metro Tunnel independent design check and value engineering project. She has a great deal of experience of tunnelling and underground spaces, including HS2 and the Thames Tideway project.

The BTSYM Professional Development Committee provides assistance to young engineers studying the annual BTS Tunnel Design & Construction Course, which is run each summer.

As tunnelling is a specialised field of civil engineering, tunnelling engineers need to gain a wide knowledge and skill base to reach a level of competence in this field.

The Professional Development Committee supports young tunnelling engineers to further develop their tunnelling knowledge by providing site visits, workshops and presentations.
