Rendel and parent company Ingerop have signed a significant contract for the appointment as the Category 3 checker of the Fraser River Tunnel Project (FRTP) in British Columbia, Canada.

We are excited to be part of this project as the Government of B.C. moves ahead with this important infrastructure investment. Ingerop and Rendel will support the Cross Fraser Partnership during the Design Early Work Agreement (DEWA) phase of the FRTP by performing the independent Category 3 Checking and Certification on the engineering design of the major structures of the project near the City of Vancouver. FRTP includes a state-of-the-art, new toll-free eight-lane immersed tube tunnel (ITT) under the Fraser River, connecting to open portals on the north and south ends and the new Deas Slough Bridge.

Cross Fraser Partnership (CFP) is a consortium formed by leading firms in the industry with exceptional experience in delivering complex grand-scale infrastructure projects, with Pomerleau BC Inc., Bouygues Construction Canada Inc., Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas Canada Ltd. (FCC). The consortium is supported by the design and engineering consultant Arcadis on engineering design, and by the immersion specialist firm Immontec on immersion design of the ITT.

The Fraser River Tunnel Project will provide a key transportation link between communities, reduce travelling time, improve transportation safety, and deliver improved transit options with dedicated transit lanes and a new multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists while maintaining navigational clearances of the Fraser River. The new immersed tube tunnel will replace the existing four-lane George Massey Tunnel with new capacity to support ongoing economic growth in the region. The innovative and advance design solution of the ITT will prioritise sustainable construction practices.
