Rendel crowned ‘Bridge Consultant of the Year’ in the NCE Bridges Awards 2025
Rendel Limited has been crowned ‘Bridge Consultant of the Year’ in the NCE Bridges Awards 2025.
At a glittering ceremony held on 17th July in central London, Rendel beat off the competition to take first place in the category which recognises the ‘best bridge engineering consultants’.
Judges commented:
“Rendel’s submission clearly demonstrated their technical excellence in their work on Colne Valley viaduct. Their commitment to sustainability was evident and quantified. The company’s dedication to professional development, including their technical apprenticeship program and support for diversity through the Vision 2027 initiative, reflects a strong commitment to promoting inclusivity within the industry. Very worthy winners!”
The Colne Valley Viaduct is a landmark infrastructure project in the development of HS2. Spanning 3.4 km, it is the longest railway bridge in the UK and a critical link in the HS2 network, crossing a diverse stretch of countryside in the Colne Valley. Once operational, it will carry high-speed trains traveling at up to 320 km/h (200 mph).
The viaduct’s design was led by Align D, a collaboration of Jacobs, Rendel Limited, Ingerop, Align, and Grimshaw, from tender through to scheme and detailed design. Construction was undertaken by the Align JV, comprising Bouygues Construction, Sir Robert McAlpine, and VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd, with support from subcontractors including VSL International Ltd., Kilnbridge, and KVJV, among others.
The final deck segment of the viaduct was successfully installed in September 2024.
This recognition highlights our ongoing commitment to engineering excellence and collaborative achievement.
