The Align JV Colne Valley Viaduct (CVV) team recently won the Project Team Excellence Award at the 2025 British Construction & Infrastructure (BCI) Awards.

The CVV is a landmark structure on the HS2 route.  Spanning 3.4 km, it is the longest railway bridge in the UK and once operational, it will carry high-speed trains traveling at up to 320 km/h (200 mph) across a series of roads, lakes, the River Colne and the Grand Union Canal, in the north west of London.

The viaduct’s design was led by Align D, a collaboration of Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporation, Rendel Limited, Ingérop, Align JV, and Grimshaw, from tender through to scheme and detailed design. Construction was undertaken by the Align JV, comprising Bouygues Travaux Publics, Sir Robert McAlpine, and VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd, with support from subcontractors including VSL International Ltd., Kilnbridge, and KVJV, among others.

The judges commented: ‘Strong and passionate leadership from HS2, who led with real clarity on the project vision and the value of the project team in achieving objectives together. The early decision to set the team up under a single name was a simple but key move, supported by the collocated worked space, resulted in a team culture focused on a clear common goal and excellence in their work. The pride of the team and their living of their values was evident and has led to the creation of a beautiful legacy structure.’

Congratulations to all involved on this remarkable achievement!
