Si Shen is a Chartered and Incorporated Engineer with over 17 years’ experience in the design of mega tunnelling projects, providing technical and team leadership for delivering holistic designs combining geotechnical and structural engineering for tunnels and underground works in general.

Si is currently a Market Sector Director for Ground Engineering, with a technical focus on tunnelling and a business focus on developing new clients and businesses for Rendel in the underground space.

Si’s technical specialisation includes the design of deep mined tunnels in soft ground (TBM-built, sprayed concrete lined), shallow tunnels (cut-and-cover) and deep vertical excavations (shafts/station boxes), with particular strength in resolving design challenges for large diameter tunnels, analysis of soil-structure interaction and water resistance of underground works. Notable projects include High Speed 2 (HS2), UK;  Lower Thames Crossing, UK; Thames Tideway Tunnel, UK; Brisbane Cross River Rail, Australia; Crossrail, UK; and Abu Dhabi STEP Tunnel, UAE.
