Construction News Workforce Awards 2022

Ioannis Koromilas

Rendel has been shortlisted in two categories of the Construction News Workforce Awards 2022.

Ioannis Koromilas has been shortlisted in the Graduate of the Year category. Ioannis is a structural and geotechnical earthquake engineer with practical experience in construction projects. He graduated from the University of Bristol with a MSc in Earthquake Engineering and Infrastructure Resilience.  Prior to that, he attained a Masters in Civil and Structural Engineering (MEng) from the University of Patras in Greece. As part of Rendel’s rail bridges team, Ioannis works on the detailed design of the Colne Valley Viaduct (CVV), a key landmark structure of HS2 Phase One. CVV will be the longest railway bridge in the UK, stretching for more than two miles (3.4km) across a series of lakes and waterways.

In addition to the above, the Align and Align-D team, which includes Rendel and Ingerop, has been shortlisted for the Construction News Workforce Awards in the “Project Team of the Year” category for its work on HS2 C1 package.

The HS2 C1 package, which includes 21.6km of high-speed rail infrastructure, including a 3.4km viaduct, 16km twin-bored tunnel with two tunnel portals and five vent shafts, is being delivered by Align, a joint venture between Bouygues Travaux Publics, VolkerFitzpatrick and Sir Robert McAlpine. Align is working with Align-D design consortium partners Jacobs, Rendel-Ingerop, GZ, Grimshaw and LDA to form a truly integrated project team, branded C1-Align.

Vardy Jones, Managing Director of Rendel said:

"Congratulations to Ioannis. He has worked very hard and truly deserves to be recognised for his contribution to Rendel’s work on HS2.

We are also very proud to be shortlisted for both of these awards. From the very start of Rendel-Ingerop’s involvement on Lot C1 of HS2, the focus has been on collaboration with the other members of the Align-D team. Rendel hosted the project team of Align-D in its offices before a central office set up by HS2 which was shared by Align-D and Align. The contractual structure adopted between the parties led to a truly collaborative approach which was the basis of the innovative processes that were set up to manage this project.”
