Hinkley Point C

Rendel, in association with Ingerop, has been appointed on a 14-month contract by Bouygues Travaux Publics and Laing O’Rourke (BYLOR) to provide design services for Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Station Control Centre Building. BYLOR is the Main Civil Works Contractor for the Hinkley Point project and is responsible for the design, construction and completion of two new EPR nuclear units at Hinkley Point C.

Rendel’s scope is to deliver the detailed design for these design build elements of BYLOR’s contract for:

  • HMX Turbine Hall 1
  • HMX Turbine Hall 2
  • HY Building (the water demineralisation building)

The turbine hall is 56m x 117m x 56m and it is buried 5m deep. The steel superstructure, without cladding, grating, steel decks, etc. has a total tonnage of 8,200 tonnes.

Ingerop with Rendel’s support will be producing the detailed design within a 3D environment using Tekla 3D will include:

  • A  review of design input data to obtain the most adequate design solutions
  • Production and maintainance of the Information Required Schedule (IRS)
  • Production of CAD/BIM models, structural analysis model(s), calculations, supporting technical reports, design substantiation records, software validation reports, etc.

Rendel and Ingerop are delighted to win this second major contract on the Hinkley Point project, having secured the contract for the detailed design of reinforced concrete buildings for EdF (HK1222).
