STEM Outreach to Wallington High School for Girls

Left to right: Aleisha Best and Federica Martorano present to students at Wallington High School for Girls

Two Rendel engineers recently spent a day at Wallington High School for Girls in Sutton, Surrey to give presentations on engineering as a career and to give support and training on interview skills.

Federica Martorano, a civil and structural engineer in Rendel’s Bridges team, gave a 45-minute presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session, providing a background to her career development and the pathway to entering a career in engineering. Federica’s experience on HS2 as well as international structural infrastructure projects.

Aleisha Best is a civil engineer with expertise in tunnelling and underground structures. During her studies she received awards from the British Tunnelling Society and the Terry Crabb Memorial Trust Group. Aleisha worked with Year 13 students at Wallington High School to practice interview techniques with constructive feedback to prepare for applications to universities and internships.

The engagement of the two engineers sharing their experience with the students of Wallington High School for Girls, is the first time we have engaged with the school and Rendel looks forward to continuing a mutually beneficial relationship.
