Rendel presents at the Concrete Bridge Development Group (CBDG) Conference
Omar Nabeel and Juan Sevillano presented at the Concrete Bridge Development Group (CBDG) Conference, hosted at the Institution of Structural Engineers in London.
Their presentation, “Design of the Colne Valley Viaduct for Durability & Resilience”, highlighted the key design features of this remarkable structure, the UK’s longest railway bridge and a vital asset within the High Speed 2 (HS2) infrastructure project.
Omar and Juan have been key members of the Colne Valley Viaduct (CVV) Align D design team for the past 10 years. The viaduct’s design was led by Align D, a collaboration of Jacobs, Rendel Limited, Ingerop, Align JV, and Grimshaw, from tender through to scheme and detailed design. Construction was undertaken by the Align JV, comprising Bouygues Construction, Sir Robert McAlpine, and VolkerFitzpatrick, with support from subcontractors including VSL International Ltd., Kilnbridge, and KVJV, among others.
Rendel was awarded New Civil Engineer’s Bridge Consultant of the Year for its work on the scheme, while the Align JV Colne Valley Viaduct Team won the Project Team Excellence Award at the 2025 British Construction & Infrastructure (BCI) Awards. Most recently, the Colne Valley Viaduct received the prestigious IABSE Award in Zurich at the 2025 IABSE Project and Technology Awards.
