The Government of Bangladesh Roads and Highways Department carried out a programme for the replacement of 36 narrow, single-lane bridges, located in the west of Bangladesh.
Rendel was appointed by the Department of International Development to provide assistance and training to the Bangladeshi government on project management, including bridge selection and procurement of consultancy services for design and monitoring. Rendel also advised on the implementation of agreed standards for design and construction, as well as raising awareness of health and safety, labour welfare, environmental, and social aspects of design and construction. In addition, Rendel provided quality assurance, preparation of project procedures, monitoring of project performance, and the financial control of DFID (Department for International Development) funding.
