Governance and Infrastructure Improvement under City Governance Project for Targeted Five City Corporations

JICA funded Governance and Infrastructure Improvement (GII) Project as a part of the City Governance Project to address the growth of the population in Bangladesh's large cities and provide adequate urban infrastructure. The improvements were planned to enhance economic growth and improve quality of life for residents.

Rendel worked as part of a joint venture with Padeco Co. Ltd (Japan), NJS Consultants Co. Ltd (Japan), Development Design Consultants Ltd (Bangladesh) and BCL Associates (Bangladesh).

Rendel was responsible for the feasibility studies and engineering design of the infrastructure components which include major urban roads and bypasses, stormwater drainage, flood relief canals and bridges, including elevated expressways and multispan river crossings. Rendel also carried out urban planning in five targeted cities within the feasibility study and master plan review sub-team. In addition, Rendel delivered the infrastructure detailed design, construction supervision and monitoring of the infrastructure projects.

The consultancy period started in 2015 and was completed in 2018.
